Guy Cote died in Nov 2022.
After yet another long battle with cancer we lost another friend and ex-team member of MICS. He spent 2 summers working at the station in the 80s where he crossed paths with Caroline Gibson and many others. Guy loved being at sea in his home waters and learning about the marine mammals that spent time there. He may have learned quite a bit about whales with us, but he taught us much about local history, plants, and the lives of North Shore people. He was very generous and helped the station establish a lecture series in Havre St Pierre which allowed us to be known locally and to summer tourist visitors to the region. Guy and his unique way for bringing to life the Quebec North Shore society and nature will be missed by many and will always be part of MICS story and enabling the outsiders that we were to be integrated more comfortable with the North Shore dwellers. Guy as a renowned historian cared deeply for the region and it showed in the passion he brought to his work recounting the history of that region.
