Anna: After graduating as marine biologist from the University of Plymouth, UK, Anna completed the Master in Research in Marine Mammal Science at the University of St Andrews (UK) with overall distinction. Under the supervision of Prof Philip Hammond, she wrote a master's thesis on the distribution of fin whales in the North Atlantic in relation to environmental variables using generalised additive models (GAMs). She spent six months in the Philippines studying whale shark behaviour and the effects of provisioning with the Large Marine Vertebrates Project. In 2013 she became co-founder and vice-president of the Luxembourgish marine biology association ODYSSEA (www.odyssea.lu) which aims to promote marine research, conservation and awareness in Luxembourg and beyond. She first joined the MICS team in 2015 to discuss project ideas, which turned into her PhD project. A year later she started her joint PhD with the University of St Andrews (UK) and Groningen (Netherlands) on fin whale genetics and demographics with emphasis on the feeding aggregation in the Gulf of St Lawrence.
