Jacques Gelineau- Citizen Scientist
Jacques has been associated with our research station and work since 1989. His background working for one of the large iron companies in Port Cartier provided him with many construction and renovation skills. He has contributed his time and skills to MICS by building a darkroom-now electronics lab, a biological lab, a tower, and many other fixes throughout our buildings.
Jacques’ passion, however, is for science and he is a remarkable self-taught individual, who through the station biologists accumulated knowledge and on water skills that make him a valued collaborator. He has contributed ID-pictures of our study species during field observations off Sept-Iles late into the fall and even early winter when blue whales are at times present. And he has contributed to our Mingan/Anticosti fieldwork when he can join us in Mingan. He has produced a series of short films on nature of the Quebec North and St Lawrence, he is known for his nature photography, interpretation skills concerning North Shore wildlife, and is an experienced St Lawrence mariner.
