Participate in Whale Research in the Mingan Archipelago - Day Trips

MICS is a non-profit organization that has been conducting long-term studies on blue, fin, minke, and humpback whales in the Mingan Archipelago for over twenty-five years. Participating in a day trip at sea with our researchers gives you the chance to experience field research first-hand and to meet individual whales, some of whom we have known for over 20 years. As we encounter cetaceans in their natural habitat, MICS researchers will share their knowledge, acquired through more than 25 years of fieldwork in the St. Lawrence, of the species encountered. You can experience our photo-identification, biopsy, acoustic, and behavioural data collection techniques.

  Itinerary and Equipment

We meet every morning at 7:30 am at the Mingan dock, 8 km (5 mi) from our research station. Most of our trips last an average of 6 to 8 hours, but some may last longer in order to continue our studies. We will provide you with an exposure suit.

Price* per person: $110 Canadian.
(For a group of 10+: $100/person)

Departures are daily, weather permitting, but you must book in advance and come to the station at least one day ahead of time to be fitted with an exposure suit.
